Our obsessions with The Flying Beets seems to grow with every listen. We previously featured the captivating and masterful single, Villain, and more recently, Don’t Let Me Notice, which was a cinematic alt-country anthem exploring the depth of human emotion, so naturally we were stoked to immerse ourselves in their latest opus, I See Through You!
Drawing us in with a moody, electric guitar soundscape reminding us 90s grunge, The Flying Beets open I See Through You with a poignant observation and the lyrics, “”Oh baby don’t you know, every time I’ve got to go, there’s something wrong with you, there’s nothing I can do…”
We are immediately intrigued the concept of the song, it’s certainly relatable, but also clearly self-realized in nature. The vocal range brought to life by Nathan Waller is beyond words – falsetto moments are intertwined with prophetic brooding rock vocals with a theatrical edge.
Fans of Nirvana and Weezer will be able to connect with the high emotional quotient and the charm that the band exudes, but there is also a theatrical nuance with the chord choices and the playfulness of the vocals which reminds us of The Rocky Horror Picture show. We could also imagine the song being used in the upcoming reboot of Buffy The Vampire Slayer, in a scene at The Bronze.

The track is stadium ready, and also has a cinematic allure, perfect for a 90s movie maybe directed by Kevin Williamson! We appreciate the themes of the song, which are deep and also playful. Speaking on the song and their intention, the band confess, “I See Through You is another melodious journey exploring human relationships. Celebrating the highs of love and companionship, the song’s beautiful message will undoubtedly conjure happy memories of those we cherish most.”
We love what The Flying Beets are manifesting, with their nod to nostalgia which has been revived for a contemporary audience. We have added I See Through You to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist!
