We recently featured Robert McGinty for his incredible album Reflections, so when we heard that the talented composer was back with Return to Lullaby Mountain, we couldn’t wait to immerse ourselves in his universe again, and share our experience.
Drawing us in with an emotive piano performance, Return to Lullaby Mountain opens with intricacy and a cinematic allure, reminding us of Yann Tiersen, the sensory quotient of the opus runs high. We are enamoured by the details and the astral notes tug on our heart’s strings. There is no doubt that Robert is a masterful pianist, but it is the charisma that he portrays with his soulful performance that is truly transcendental.
There is a spiritual depth to the piece, and this ties into the title. We feel immersed in drama and a sense of longing, with the tempo shifts there is a notion of urgency, in the ebbs and flows which oscillate between meditative and dramatic.
Return to Lullaby Mountain is designed to bring to life the “perfect blend of love, longing and hope but with a melancholic tone”. We learn that the piece was recorded in Manchester, England, and was created with the intention to demonstrate Robert’s “dedication to his craft and his ability to convey profound emotions through his music.”

Robert confesses that Return to Lullaby Mountain stands as “one of the most moving pieces he has ever written” and we are inclined to agree – the deep rooted emotion that feels so tangible is poetic, graceful, and cinematic. The composer adds, “It is one of my best ever melodies and takes the mix of emotions expressed in the piece to new heights.”
With references to his influences, Robert says, “Richard Clayderman playing the piano on Ballade pour Adeline, [and] Ludovico Einaudi’s original style of very emotive piano pieces such as Le Onde inspired me to create the huge emotional melancholic, sad but hopeful piece that is Return to Lullaby Mountain.”
We always love what Robert McGinty creates and have added Return to Lullaby Mountain to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the visionary composer’s exquisite, growing discography!
