Drawing us in with a static frequency, expanding with a super dimensional, layered guitar performance, tapping into an immersive rock and roll energy, Ultan opens Reviled with a high octane energy, and metaphorical prose.
The lyrics and thought-provoking, intelligently written and philosophically profound as Ultan shares his soul, perspective and clever word-play between the concept of being “revealed” and “reviled.” There is no doubt that Ultan‘s sound is stadium ready, but there is also a cinematic nature to the track, which makes is perfect for a Hollywood synch deal for a movie scene that essentially reflects the notion of the lyrics, which can be perceived on a human level, but also universal.
The accompanying music video is a visual masterpiece with a cerebral edge, featuring epic city shots and a captivating performance from the star himself, slaying on the guitar. There are crowd surfing shots, a mysterious spiritual looking female archetype and conceptual motifs intertwined.
When quizzed on his influences, Ultan confesses, “[They] go right back to the early rockers – Jerry Lee, [and] Eddie Cochrane through the great sixties and seventies era right up to the Rhythm & Blues, hard rock, punk and heavy metal bands of the eighties. If anything I think my style is along the AC/DC, Bon Jovi, Motorhead spectrum with maybe a bit of R&B subtly intertwined.”

Chord changes in Reviled are timeless, yet hypnotic, laced with a high emotional quotient. It is clear that the artist holds a depth of experience and instrumental mastery, which manifests on Reviled. He tells us, “I’ve been writing original songs all my adult life and I just think its time to be heard.”
With reference to his background, Ultan adds, “I’m Irish and was born and grew up in Belfast, leaving in 1990 for the bright lights of London before returning to Ireland and living in Dublin since 1997. I’ve worked in construction and refurb most of my life and never put anything musical out or played in any cover bands.”
We appreciate the authenticity that comes through with Ultan‘s sound, and the inspiring nature of his choice to release music, fulfilling not only his own dreams, but allowing us to share in this experience with him. We plan to add Reviled to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist as soon as they are available on Spotify, in the meantime, we continue to explore Ultan‘s YouTube Channel!
