Establishing the mood with a bold and immersive introduction, with a pulsating energy and thrashing guitars, Kevin McClure opens Bring Me Back with dimensionality as the opus expands into clarity and the artist reminisces with the lyrics, “Now I regret that I, ran away down my own road… I’m seeking out a place to hide, where I can buy all the things I know…”
We are immediately intrigued. Kevin’s universe feels relatable and his raw authenticity is tangible as he shares his philosophical nature with us. The track taps into 80s nostalgic elements with the melodies, fused with timeless 2000s rock vibes and a fresh pop-adjacent energy that feels stadium-ready.
There is a high emotional quotient embedded in the track, and intertwined with the star’s poetic prowess. Lyrics like the hook, “I’m so far gone, bring me back…” feels so real, and clearly written from a very deeply personal space. There is a cinematic allure that also transcends – the song would be perfect of a number of Hollywood movie synch deals with themes of self-realisation.

We learn that Bring Me Back carries a rich history and was originally recorded by McClure’s former band, Scenic, but has since undergone a transformation over the last decade and was finished at The 402 Arts Collective in Omaha. Speaking on his influences, Kevin cites inspiration from “high energy bands from the mid-2000’s youth group era like Switchfoot, Relient K, Anberlin, and The Almost, while also pulling from more mainstream rock artists like The All American Rejects and Something Corporate, [and] a writing style that emphasizes melodic hooks like that of Mat Kearney, Ben Rector, and Matt Nathanson.”
Elaborating on his intention for the track, Kevin says, “I want this song to take me to where I once found a home, while simultaneously giving me a new sense of belonging. It’s a unique experience to sing a song with your younger self, but I feel like that’s what happened with this song. It connected two versions of the same person back together.”
We love the depth that manifests with Bring Me Back, and have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Kevin McClure‘s wider discography, including the entirety of the Bring Me Back EP!
