We recently featured Tara Van as she invited us to connect with universal source energy on her intentional and healing single, Sunshine’s Callin’, so when we heard that the talented creator was back with Hello Human, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
With a pristine acoustic guitar performance and banjo, Tara Van opens Hello Human with philosophical depth as she shares conscious prose, intertwined with bold and ancestral percussion, charming keys and a stunning strings arrangement.
Speaking intentionally on the message of her release, Tara Van confesses, “Hello Human is a song that I think is more relevant than ever as we continue making our way through unprecedented times in the wake of the pandemic.”
The rising artist continues, “Wars breaking out, natural disasters becoming more common place, temperature levels rising, inflation increasing and mental health plummeting and greed ever present. This song is an ode to nature and a call to people to look out for one another along with the rest of the planet that we all must share. I hope it fills you with a child-like whimsy.”
The Toronto-based star’s opus is an important and heartfelt ode to the natural world and a clarion call for mindfulness. Drawing from her rich tapestry of soul, folk, pop, and jazz, Tara’s genre-eluding sound captures the essence of her diverse influences. Born to pour her heart into her music, her work resonates with a raw authenticity that has been a constant in her life, from choral baroque tunes over breakfast to impromptu open-mic sessions under the glow of a fire. The single encapsulates Tara’s unique style – a blend of whimsical wonder and poignant introspection, inviting listeners to reconnect with the earth’s delicate harmony.
Tara Van’s musical journey is as layered as her influences, which include icons like Joni Mitchell, Stevie Wonder, and Amy Winehouse. We learn that Hello Human was crafted in the cozy confines of Malory Torr’s home studio in Baby Point, Toronto, with the finishing touches by Patrick Cederberg. The collaboration began when Tara, inspired by her stay in Panama, reached out to Malory after a chance meeting in London. The resulting track is a stunning blend of acoustic ukulele and evocative vocals, capturing the whimsical and child-like wonderment Tara aims to convey. The production is a seamless blend of organic and electronic elements, creating a soundscape that is both soothing and electrifying.
The wider inspiration behind Hello Human stemmed from Tara’s contemplative moments at her family home in Panama, where the ocean’s vast expanse and the skies’ endless stretch provided the perfect backdrop for her reflections. Having just finished reading ‘The Age Of Insecurity’ by Astra Taylor, Tara was deeply moved by themes of privatization and the imperative to protect our shared Earth. The song’s message is clear: a gentle reminder to embrace the world’s beauty, to be present, and to foster a deeper connection with nature. Tara’s approach to songwriting is a blend of vulnerability and strength, inviting listeners to join her in this call for environmental consciousness and personal introspection.
We love what Tara Van manifests with her sound, and the conscious elements of our universe that she seeks to align with. We have added Hello Human to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Tara Van‘s wider discography, and anticipate future releases from the visionary artist.
