Drawing us in with a dimensional acoustic guitar soundscape with textured percussion, KATCHAFIRE open Commit with affirmative prose and the opening line, “I need you to commit to another type of consciousness…”
The opus expands with layered and harmonized vocals, and a positive and connected mindset. We appreciate the soulful nature of the composition, cohesively intertwined with a high emotional quotient from the critically acclaimed Maori reggae rockers who convey a “powerful message about human connection, empathy, and peaceful resolutions.”
Lead singer Logan Bell confesses, “Commit is about humans making a commitment to each other to choose life, communication, love and understanding, overall. A commitment to treating others how you would like to be treated. To have the empathy to look through another’s eyes and come to peaceful resolutions…. Imagine a future where we commit to avoid violence and war, at any cost? If I had one wish, it would be for us all to get along. No matter our indifference!”
There is no doubt that Commit arries a powerful message that resonates deeply in today’s world, emphasizing the importance of choosing life, love, and understanding. We learn that the cover art for the single features the New Zealand native and extinct Huia bird, symbolizing the song’s themes of beauty and connection. Logan shared the story behind the artwork’s creation, highlighting the band’s dedication to their roots and community. After an extensive search, the band connected with artist Victor Te Paa, a long-time fan of KATCHAFIRE, who created the stunning image.
Musically, KATCHAFIRE blends classic roots reggae with R’n’B, funk, and modern dancehall, creating a universal vibe that resonates worldwide. Their sound is a unique fusion of slinky pop, cool grooves, and uplifting energy that invites listeners to groove along and embrace the spirit of unity.
We love what the band is manifesting, and have added Commit to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of KATCHAFIRE, including their 2006 album, Revival.
