We recently featured Marc Soucy as he took us on a transcendental trip with his dimensional debut opus, Tashkent Club Fire, so when we heard that the visionary producer was back with Drifter in Paradise, we were curious to say the least, and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience!
Establishing the mood with a glistening guitar soundscape, tapping into that astral and cosmic frequency that we first fell in love with the artist, Marc Soucy opens Drifter in Paradise with vibrancy and an elevated frequency.
Bass guitar arpeggios guide us further, and the chord changes tap into our heart’s centre, showcasing great skill and performance prowess as the opus expands. A cerebral high synth emerges, lending itself to a celestial nuance, and needless to say, we are in awe.
Speaking on the concept of the release, Marc Soucy tells us, “Drifter In Paradise is a soundscape in a “spaghetti western” style that tells the story of a cowboy in search of his own life. It is unclear whether he is actually alive or not. Is this his ghost wishing things had been different?”
We appreciate the backstory of the narrative and connect with the cinematic appeal that the composition exudes. The dimensionality is fervent and the cohesion is blissful. A dramatic twist comes through two thirds of the way into the track, further cementing the concept of the piece and keeping us fully engaged. The meditative repose before a return to form and familiarity makes for a sensational moment in the song, and the diminuendo finale is something that we truly do not hear enough in music created today!
With reference to his wider body of work and compositional nature, Marc confesses, “Things have changed so much over the many years I’ve been doing this, I think I bring a fresh approach to music that is often missing from what I hear out there. My music is a listening choice that might parallel jazz, classical, new age, or bluegrass. It’s really none of the above though. It’s a little of everything at once. Each single will be distinctive and very different from the others. I keep things interesting that way, and true to my musical heart.”
We absolutely love what Marc Soucy manifests with his music and have added Drifter in Paradise to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Tashkent Fire Club, and anticipate future releases from the visionary producer.
