We recently featured Plasma Chasms as they took us on a retro-disco, psychedelic trip with their intentional single, Solaris, so when we heard that the talented duo was back with Interstellar Baby, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience!
Plasma Chasms have truly outdone themselves with Interstellar Baby from their upcoming album, Chrysalis. The opus is a mesmerizing journey, tapping into the overarching theme of the album which is “a cosmic elevator ride”. Interstellar Baby manifests a soul/R&B sound, imbued with vintage Motown vibes and blissfully soulful vocals.
From the moment Interstellar Baby begins, we are enveloped in a soundscape that feels both familiar and otherworldly. The production is dynamic and dimensional, a rich tapestry of intricate, astral elements that glisten like stars in the night sky.
It’s a track where modern psychedelia meets the timeless charm of classic soul, resulting in a unique sonic blend that is both refreshing and nostalgic. The band’s question, “Will you take the ride and experience this cosmic love at first sight story?” serves as an invitation to immerse oursrelves in a musical experience that is as much about feeling as it is about listening.
Vocally, Interstellar Baby is nothing short of sublime. Adrian Guerrero‘s range is showcased beautifully, particularly through falsetto nuances that add a delicate, ethereal quality to the track. The choral moments, featuring Jane Drewett‘s layered vocals, provide a depth that makes the song feel expansive, as if you’re truly floating through different worlds within this cosmic elevator.
The craftsmanship in the production is evident. Each listen reveals new details, subtle synths, shimmering riffs, and perfectly placed percussive elements that contribute to the song’s overall astral atmosphere. It’s a track that demands multiple listens, not just to appreciate its complexity, but to bask in its beauty.
Interstellar Baby is testament to Plasma Chasms‘ ability to create music that transcends genre boundaries, combining the best of vintage soul with the innovative spirit of modern psychedelia. This is a track that will linger in your mind, its melody and message echoing long after you’ve exited the elevator. So, will you take the ride?
If Interstellar Baby is any indication of what Chrysalis holds, then the journey is bound to be spectacular. We have added Interstellar Baby to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Solaris and Psychedelic Carousel, and anticipate the releases of Chrysalis!
