Drawing us in with a meditative frequency, expanding with melodic nuance, Carillon opens Venus with a sentiment of peace, before a voice over invites us to tap into a higher consciousness. Astral bells guide us further into the cosmos, and we feel at one with the universe.
In a world filled with constant noise and relentless pace, a meditative song like Venus offers a sanctuary of calm and introspection. We appreciate the evolution of the track with an 8-bit energy and rhythmic percussion. Its gentle, flowing melodies create a tranquil atmosphere, helping us relax and reduce stress.
The song encourages mindfulness and self-discovery, promoting greater self-awareness and emotional healing. Venus also inspires creativity and enhances practices like meditation and yoga, providing a deep, immersive experience.
Speaking on the release, Carillon confesses, “I’ve been continuing my exploration of sounds, melodies, and repeating phrases that convey calm, contemplation, and inspiration. Venus is a looping and droning piece with synthesizers, vibraphone, and glockenspiel. It includes samples from a cassette tape of breathing meditation exercises. It builds gradually at the tempo of a resting heartbeat.”
In conjunction with Venus comes Moon Knob, which opens with an immersive synth melody, evolving with a subversive bass line to tap into a dynamic and dimensional field of sound. The opus expands with a cerebral edge to take us on a transcendental journey. We appreciate the sonic expansion into clarity and the almost Eastern soundscape that manifests.
The ebbs and flows of the composition are divine, allowing space for introspection and laced with dramatic flair including the sound of a passing train. Elaborating on the piece, Carillon says, “Moon Knob is a composition based on eight notes that repeat in cyclical rhythmic phrases of different lengths. They intersect in different combinations, like objects in orbit. The title comes from a poem by Ted Kooser: ‘I sometimes take hold of the cold porcelain knob of the moon, and turn it, and step into a room warm and yellow’.”
We appreciate the philosophical depth that Carillon creates with, and learn that his name was inspired by the Netherlands Carillon, which the composer used to walk by when he worked in Arlington, Virginia. He reminds us that “a carillon is a large set of bells, typically in a tall tower.”
We have added both Venus, and Moon Knob to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to explore Carillon‘s wider discography, watch the incredible, animated music video for Moon Knob, and anticipate future releases from the cosmic composer!
