Our obsession with Rye Catchers seems to grow with every listen, so when we heard that the talented producer had dropped History – Nikki Simmons Reprise, which features vocalist Nikki Simmons and bassist Tim Lefebvre, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Establishing the mood with a pristine vocal performance, filled with a high emotional quotient, and intertwined with a stunning guitar performance, History – Nikki Simmons Reprise opens with philosophical depth and drama. Needless to say, we are in awe.
We appreciate the timeless pop rock nature of the opus, reminding us of iconic bands like Evanescence. Nikki Simmons‘ powerhouse vocals soar with intensity and charisma, perfectly complemented by Lefebvre’s driving and intricate basslines.
The song’s structure is masterfully crafted, with moody verses that build tension and anticipation, contrasted by sweeping choruses that offer a powerful release. The overall sound has a nostalgic vibe, yet it’s polished with a modern overlay and mix. There is a cinematic energy that comes with History, and we could imagine the song securing Hollywood synch deals for superhero movies.
This tune is one of the highlights of the second full-length album by Rye Catchers, titled Mixed Messages. The album itself manifests a rich musical journey, with this particular track standing out as a testament to the project’s evolving artistry and the seamless synergy between Simmons and Lefebvre who has performed with David Bowie, KNOWER, The Black Crowes, and Sting.
In addition to Simmons and Lefebvre, noteworthy musicians who appear on the album include Milwaukee guitarist Sean Williamson, multi-instrumentalist and singer Ryan Whyte Maloney, Spanish session vocalist Nekane, Nigerian EDM remixers / DJs Maze x Mxtreme, and Canadian pianist / composer Ricardo Giarratana!
We love what Rye Catchers is creating, and have added History – Nikki Simmons Reprise to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our new TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the entirety of Mixed Messages, and anticipate future releases from the visionary producer.
