Drawing us in with an immersive, grunge-adjacent guitar, and expanding with textured drums and a dimensional bassline, The House Flies open She Hums Mozart with a sense of cognitive familiarity. Astral tones guide us further with a cerebral edge and atmospheric vocals that remind us of The Smashing Pumpkins. Needless to say, we are obsessed.
We appreciate the concept of the track, and the metaphorical depth, laced with poetic prowess. The House Flies tap into a timeless and introspective nature, with a hint of nostalgia for the 90s, and an innate nod to escapism.
The opus comes with a glitch-core music video which shows the cohesive nature of the band in situ. We learn that The House Flies is comprised of Alex Riggen slaying on vocals and guitar, Nick Pompou sharing his skill on drums, and Ozzie Woods tripping us out on bass. In addition to their work with The House Flies, Riggen and Pompou are also members of the esteemed post-metal grunge band Murnau, which has released four albums since its inception in 2008!
She Hums Mozart previews the band’s upcoming album, Mannequin Deposit, which will be released on July 2nd! Known for their unique blend of shoegaze, goth rock, post-punk, and grunge, The House Flies have gained a dedicated following and critical acclaim. We dug around and sound out that the track names on the upcoming record are Sequin, Twilight Eyes, Queen Underground, Hounds, Apple, Marrow, and And Ghosts Will Speak Again! Iconic.
We appreciate the cinematic and introspective nature of She Hums Mozart, and have added the track to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the band, namely their 2023 EP, Glimmer, and anticipate the release of Mannequin Deposit!
