Establishing the mood with textured drums and a psychedelic rock soundscape with atmospheric vocals, Offliners open Stars and Mars with prophetic prose as they sing, “The world needs heroes, or so it seems, to save us all, in the end..”
The opus expands with introspective depth to paint a vivid, yet metaphorical picture of our current reality. We appreciate the escapist notions and the lyrical nods to Bowie and Elton John, as well as the sublime and transcendental guitar performances. The stripped-back sonic switch up for the middle eight is welcome with luscious power pop vocals, before a stunning final reprise.
Speaking on the message of the timeless and intricate track, the Danish trio confess, “We live in a modern world. But we also exploit the resources in the world in a way so that the future on the earth has become more uncertain than ever.”
The talented Danish creators continue with depth, “At the same time space adventurers are progressing and some even have a plan to colonize Mars – either out of sheer need or just because it is possible. Making sense of all of this can be difficult… But here is at least one song, that takes up – and refers – to the previous strong songs on space travel from both David Bowie and Elton John.”
Stars and Mars offers a refreshing escape from the mundane realities of daily life through its rich escapist and philosophical themes. The song transports us to a fantastical realm, encouraging us to leave behind their worries and immerse ourselves in a world of imagination and wonder, albeit with a conscious twist rooted in the notion of ensuring that what we have on planet Earth is also prioritized before further celestial expansion.
Offliners is made up of three experienced musicians from Copenhagen who have an extensive background, having performed and recorded with prominent rock and pop artists. While Offliners have a strong affinity for classic rock, they also explore genres like indie and Americana. It is no surprise that their previous releases have gained international radio play and are featured on various streaming services and playlists worldwide.
We love the intentional way that Offliners create with, and have added Stars and Mars to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream their wider discography, including Save the world and rock and roll, and Wide Open Spaces, and anticipate future releases from the visionary creators.
