Vegan popstar Billie Eilish just released her latest album, HIT ME HARD AND SOFT. The record itself is cohesive and masterfully produced by FINNEAS. Although LUNCH might have been the most anticipated song on a celebrity and LGBTQ+ front, our favourite track on the record is THE DINER.
Tapping into a circus-esque energy with super psychedelic nuance, vocal design and even an DMT trip-esque outro, THE DINER narrates a dark, intense, and unhealthy fixation. It explores themes of obsession, delusion, and the blurring of reality, where the protagonist’s love is dangerously one-sided and unreciprocated. The unsettling narrative highlights the psychological descent of the protagonist, raising awareness of the severity and consequences of such obsessive behaviour.
Needless to say, we are obsessed.
With reference to her decision not to release any singles from the new record, Billie says: “I don’t like singles from albums. Every single time an artist I love puts out a single without the context of the album, I’m just already prone to hating on it. I really don’t like when things are out of context. This album is like a family: I don’t want one little kid to be in the middle of the room alone.”
That said, THE DINER would be our lead single of choice. The unhinged escapism we all need. We have added THE DINER to our New Music Spotlight playlist, our Genre Bend Playlist and our TRIPPY and TIMELESS playlists, whilst we continue to stream the remainder of the record and anticipate any accompanying visuals from HIT ME HARD AND SOFT!
