Drawing us in with cerebral, textured percussion and an airy riser with dramatic drums, Kevin Whitaker opens Love War with assertive, metaphorical prose as he sings, “Your love is like a war, I’m ready to fall, your love is like a war, I’d die for…”
The opus expands with a dimensional bassline, reminiscent of 90s pop, as Kevin Whitaker shares his lived experience with poetic prowess, fierce vocal design and an anthemic overarching energy. Needless to say, we are in awe.
We appreciate the dynamic production, which we can imagine is breathtaking to experience in a live setting. Kevin’s charisma is tangible, and the high emotional quotient that he shares with his relatable, yet philosophical message is greatly appreciated.
The switch up at the mid-point of the track adds to the captivating nature of the track, and we love the sound design nuances that tap into a subversive frequency, with a stadium-filling feeling that we cannot get enough of!
Speaking on the message of Love War, Kevin confesses, “This song is a love song with a burn. Imagine the movie Mr and Mrs Smith, the love and yet the fighting. Wiling to die for a war in its own way, a battle of love.”
We learn that Love War was recorded at Kevin’s home studio in Pennsylvannia, and was written and co-produced with Bradley Denniston of Radium Records in Hollywood. When discussing his influences, Kevin cites Nine Inch Nails to the 80s Europop scene, plus Depeche Mode, and New Order, although there is no doubt that Kevin Whitaker is manifesting a universe that is unique to his own design.
We have added Love War to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS and TRIPPY playlists, whilst we continue to stream Kevin Whitaker‘s wider discography, including Unpredictable Love, Crown, and Rise!
