As we know, reallocation of resources towards a sustainable, plant-based future could feed four billion more people, and shifting energy resources towards plant-based consumption has the potential to swiftly alleviate world hunger on multiple fronts.
Plants require fewer resources to cultivate compared to livestock, conserving land, water, and energy. Redirecting agricultural efforts towards growing crops for direct human consumption instead of livestock feed could exponentially increase food availability. Additionally, plant-based diets are more efficient in converting calories and protein, providing more sustenance per unit of land. By reallocating energy towards plant-based agriculture, we can address hunger more effectively, as it requires fewer resources to produce ample food, thus potentially solving world hunger overnight.
One of the few organisations on our planet brave enough to speak this truth to power and help manifest a solution-driven reality is Food Yoga International (FYI), formerly known as Food for Life Global.
Food Yoga International serves as the headquarters for an global network of over 250 affiliate projects in 65 countries serving over 1 million plant-based meals daily. To date, Food Yoga International has served over 8 billion free meals and is the world’s largest food relief organization. Their mission is to address the root cause of hunger and other social issues through teaching equality of all life through the liberal distribution of plant-based meals prepared with loving intention.
The distribution of sanctified plant-based meals has been and will continue to be an essential part of India’s Vedic culture of hospitality from which Food Yoga International was born. Since its inception in the early ’70s, Food Yoga International has tried to liberally distribute pure plant-based meals (prasadam) throughout the world with the aim of creating peace and prosperity.
The Food Yoga International office facilitates the expansion, coordination, and promotion of prasadam distribution throughout the world. The project started in 1974 after yoga students of Swami Prabhupada, became inspired by his plea that “No one within a ten-mile radius of a temple should go hungry!” Today Food Yoga International affiliates are active in over 60 countries.
FYI’s vision is that the world’s problems can be solved by spiritual solutions. Specifically, regarding world hunger, Food Yoga International maintains that when the people of the world recognize the spiritual equality of all beings, they will learn to share equally in the bounty of the earth, and only then will they experience genuine peace and prosperity.
