Setting the tone with a cosmic synthscape, featuring astral bell arpeggios, along with a captivating emotive dance-pop melody, Griffter opens Emerald Weapon with an expansive energy and cohesive sense of dynamism. The opus evolves with a pulsating beat, sweeps and a dimensional riser to manifest a celestial synth, layered with vocal harmonies and a euphoric sense of oneness.
We appreciate the intricacy of the production and a spacey riser totally hypnotizes us before a dynamic beat break down, tapping into a more subversive and industrial pop energy. Detailed with airy crescendos and exploding in a transcendental frequency, Emerald Weapon is a delightful and escapist anthem with high emotional quotient.
The appearance of a subtle 808 taps into our heart centre, whilst nuanced detailing and a melodic rising synth amplify the high octane energy, akin to an ascension, resulting in a fierce dance break with an 80s style synth and textured percussion.
The return of the main synth is welcomed whilst an 8-bit glitch-pop energy brings us to a meditative breakdown and finale, with a poetic piano outro leaving us yearning for more! Speaking on the message of the composition, Griffter confesses that the piece takes inspiration from video game scores of the early 2000s, and “blending beautiful elements with dirty electronic elements”, he adds that it is designed to take us “through the hero’s journey, starting inspiring, then dark and brooding, finishing victorious.”
He elaborates, “This song is about defeating any challenges in your way. It was highly influenced by the game Final Fantasy 7 and the battles that were had in it. I remember how impactful the music was to the game, so I wanted to create a song where it takes the listener through the journey of starting a quest, defeating multiple enemies, taking a well needed break to put all the energy into the final boss battle.”
The artist also known as Jeff Luong cites Zedd, Don Diablo, Chris Lake, and Chromeo as sonic influences, although there is no doubt that Griffter is creating a universe of his own. We love the intentional trip that Griffter takes us on, and have added Emerald Weapon to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Griffter‘s wider discography, including BEAUTIFUL, and Can’t Get You Our of My Head.
