By now, you will know that we are huge fans of Sam Feinstein, having featured his debut, sophomore and most recent singles. When we heard that the talented and profound creator was back with Need Me, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Setting the tone with padded drums and a cerebral riff, evolving with a dark and immersive, yet psychedelic energy, Sam Feinstein taps into his subversive reality with a dark wave, almost Brit-rock vibe as he shares an emotional side of himself, with pitched vocal design and intricate nuance.
The drama is tangible, and we appreciate the cathartic release, switching up into a euphoric power pop and heart-wrenching ode to his poison, before the darkness engages us once again. We love the sonic ebbs and flows that manifest, showcasing Sam’s dimensionality as an artist and also his relationship with his chemical muse.
Speaking on the dynamic and important message of Need Me, Sam confesses, “This brooding is written from the point of view of an addiction, begging the addict to affirm their love while hinting at the true abusive nature of their relationship.”
Experiencing Need Me is cathartic and profoundly healing. The melody weaves through the complexities of emotions, resonating with those who grapple with addiction and the painful entanglement it brings. From the perspective of the addiction itself, the song becomes a haunting plea, a desperate cry for validation wrapped in a melody of longing.
Amidst the turmoil, there’s a clear optimistic message of hope. In the transcendental melodic switch-ups and raw lyrics, there’s an acknowledgment of the pain and struggle, but also a recognition of the possibility for redemption. In the end, Need Me becomes more than just a song—it’s a lifeline, a reminder that healing is possible, and that the first step towards recovery is acknowledging the truth, no matter how painful it may be. We learn that Sam has a longstanding love of both Pink Floyd and Weezer, and Need Me is designed to brings those two styles into the same song.
We love Sam Feinstein‘s message and expanding body of work, and have added Need Me to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream Maslow’s Mountain, Hamster Wheel, and Chasing the Bull!
