Our obsession with Andy Smythe seems to grow with every listen. We previously featured the talented creator for the refined and expressive, Prodigal Son, and the expansive and captivating, Out of my Mind, so when we heard that Andy r was back with Don’t Be a Fool, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Establishing the mood with intricate guitar, textured drums and an astral, blues harp, Andy Smythe opens Don’t Be a Fool with the title of track as he shares his wisdom and philosophical depth with us. We are immediately hypnotized by Andy’s timbre, layered harmonies and high emotional quotient as he takes us on a profound and immersive journey.
Speaking on his message, Andy confesses, “Don’t be a Fool is the final single from my new album Poetry in Exile. It’s a song about betrayal, renewal and recreating yourself in a post-COVID landscape.”
Despite the specific and timely inspiration for the track, Andy’s sage wisdom transcends the pandemic alone, providing guidance for all of us on an altruistic level. Andy elaborates, “Don’t be a Fool is a song about reflecting on all of the people that have become isolated in power and leadership from across history from Caesar to Boris! The key is to always listen to others and gain consensus in decision making or the ending might be unpleasant, that’s the reflection that the song’s trying to capture.”
At its core, Don’t be a Fool carries themes of transformation, resilience, and hope. As we immerse ourselves in the music, we find solace in the lyrics that speak to their own experiences of change and evolution.
