Drawing us in with a captivating guitar performance, expanding with textured drums and cerebral melodies, PORTER open Tout Est Pardonné with atmospheric vocals and philosophical depth. Needless to say, we are in awe.
We appreciate the instrumental performances which showcase nothing short of mastery, and manifest a pristine, alternative rock sound. The gripping lyrical hooks and overarching concept of the track are consciously astute, and exude poetic prowess, whilst the switch ups in vocal design add value to the dynamic and intentional journey.
Speaking on the zeitgeist message of the release, the band confess, “We borrowed the lyrics from Sophie Scholl. They are presumably her last words, shortly before she was murdered by the Nazis on 22 February 1943. They are important, true words.”
The German creators continue, “There is no reason or excuse today to keep our mouths shut in the face of the obvious threat of fascist tendencies in society. This song is about courage. About remaining human in times of pure inhumanity. It is a warning in today’s times, which are preparing to allow what has happened, the unimaginable, to be seen as forgettable. But it is also about the indispensable hope that can endure even in the darkest times of human existence – must endure if we all want to stand a chance against the senseless barbarism of unscrupulous dictators and their stooges.”
We learn that Tout Est Pardonné is the fourth single from the band’s long-awaited third album, GENOSHA, which takes on a “much more metal-heavy focus.” On this album, PORTER transports the prevailing social dynamics – the yearning for change by some and the resistance to change by others – to a fictional city named “GENOSHA”. The stagnation and apathy towards an inevitable shift towards a more mindful coexistence compel a gradually expanding group to reject the notion of fate and instead seize control of their own destinies. The name “GENOSHA” is borrowed from the dystopian place of the same name in the Marvel comic universe, where it was used as an allegory for slavery and apartheid.
We appreciate the intentional depth that PORTER create with, and have added Tout Est Pardonné to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the other songs that have been released from GENOSHA, including Tax Free Hollows, and Behind The Banlieu, and anticipate the remainder of the album!
