Setting the tone with textured percussion and atmospheric vocals singing the title of the track, evolving with metaphorical prose, Berto opens contradiction with a philosophical nature, as we experience a dimensional energy and thought-provoking themes from the Los Angeles based artist.
The opus expands with dynamism, as Berto takes us on a cerebral trip with indie pop nuance. Speaking on the message of the track, the emerging artist confesses, “This is a fun song that covers a topic not really talked about much, but is very prevalent in the queer community.” He adds with reference to the narrative, “It’s all about the end of a relationship and when someone is breaking up with you, they’re detailing all these lame break up excuses that don’t even add up to what they swore up and down was their truth at the beginning of the relationship. It tackles a very particular event in gay relationships, along with people-pleasing and accountability.”
We connect with the psychedelic instrumental segments, which amplify the contextual message of the piece, whilst Berto showcases his vocal range, switching up timbres and design, adding layered harmonies and astral sonic detailing.
Elaborating on his wider artistry, Berto tells us, “contradiction is the fourth song on my upcoming debut album. The album is the story of a relationship from beginning to end. This song functions as the midpoint of the story.”
Berto continues, “Each song functions as a chapter of the story, bringing with it a different perspective, angle, mood, and genre.” The rising creator cites Tame Impala, and The Bravery as influences, which we can feel come through on contradiction, although there is no doubt that Berto is manifesting a sound of his own.
We love the intentional depth that Berto creates with, and have added contradiction to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream Berto‘s debut single, papi guapi, and anticipate future releases from the talented creator.
