It is no secret that we are huge fans of Matt McKnzi, having featured his philosophical and emotive single, Atlas, and the empowering and transcendental, Roar, so when we heard that the talented creator was back with Moon, we couldn’t wait to experience it and share our thoughts.
Before we begin the review, it is worth noting that Moon was released just prior to the Full Moon, lunar eclipse of March 2024, in the sign of Libra – an aligned cosmic effort from the artist, and something that we deeply embrace!
Establishing the mood with an elegant and intimate guitar soundscape with nuanced nature sounds, Matt McKnzi opens Moon with introspective prose, a tender narrative and a self-realized message as he sings, “My life in a pretty pop song, I stay stuck in my head when I’m all alone…”
The New England-born artist showcases his signature blend of alternative pop, soul, and R&B influences on the opus which delves into Matt McKnzi‘s “nostalgia over a soul connection lost.” We love the connected nature of what the star shares, and the softness to his delivery. His poetic prowess is tangible, and it is clear that he is singing from an authentic experience, providing catharsis to himself and those of us privileged enough to listen.
Matt goes on to tell us that Moon is “an ode to lovers who no longer live on the same plane, whether physically or metaphorically.” He continues, “Moon explores the enduring impact of shared love despite the paths that may have diverged.”
This message feels even more aligned, particularly as this Full Moon, lunar eclipse is the universe telling us that we are about to experience many battles while numerous wars are happening, all at once. This event invites us to overextend ourselves and build harmony by learning everyone’s stories.
We love Matt McKnzi‘s intentional and aligned brand of song creation, and have added Moon to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Matt’s growing discography!
