The evolution of 9 o’clock Nasty has been fascinating to experience. The subversive band has captured our hearts with their fearless approach to music, creating forward-thinking songs that are both thought-provoking and eye-opening.
Through their rebellious lyricism, unconventional melodies, and daring stage presence, 9 o’clock Nasty challenges societal norms and pushes the boundaries of music. Their songs serve as a call to action, urging listeners to question authority, challenge the status quo, and embrace their individuality with unapologetic fervor.
9 o’clock Nasty‘s music is a powerful force for change, sparking conversations about pressing social issues and shedding light on the injustices of the world, so when we heard that the band was back with Dead Pilot, we were curious to say the least.
Drawing us in with an industrial riff and padded drums with a cerebral riser, 9 o’clock Nasty open Dead Pilot with situational prose and the assertive delivery that we love from the talented trio. The message of the song is succinctly metaphorical, and the hooks are captivating.
The concept of the opus is based around the mysterious events of Flight MH370. Malaysia Airlines Flight 370 was an international passenger flight operated by Malaysia Airlines that disappeared from radar on 8 March 2014, while flying from Kuala Lumpur International Airport in Malaysia to its planned destination, Beijing Capital International Airport in China.
To further embellish on the details, 9 o’clock Nasty paint a picture for us with the accompanying text, “Your life. In their hands. Pilots. Surgeons. Uber drivers. Every day you live or die based on their decisions. Shall we call them “daddy?” Welcome to the world of DEAD PILOT.”
They continue, “Part myth, part horror story, the events of Flight MH370 remain a mystery. At the beating heart of the trauma a man. The dead pilot. The centre. The pivot. The line of life and death. Best show them some respect eh?”
Bandmate Ted Pepper chimes in to say, “Flight safety announcements badly needed a theme tune. There. You’re welcome.” and Pete Brock adds, “As a fully qualified inter-continental, long-haul pilot, I endorse this tune.”
The comedy pizazz that 9 o’clock Nasty exudes is one of a kind, and we love the manner in which they channel their authenticity to manifest their sound. We have added Dead Pilot to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we anticipate the remainder of the band’s new album, provisionally titled THIS IS CROWLAND.
