We previously featured Eddie Cohn as he shared his intentional wisdom with the captivating, Who or What I Was Before, so when we heard that the talented creator was back with Wave Goodbye, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Enticing us with a power-pop vocal design, Eddie Cohn opens Wave Goodbye with a choral introduction of “bye, bye, bye”, coupled with a dimensional guitar soundscape before sharing the prophetic prose, “You know it goes around, it comes around, you feel so far out of touch…”
The opus expands with a timeless, alternative rock energy to take us on a thought-provoking journey with dynamic ebbs and flows, stunning 90s grunge-inspired riffs and ear-worm hooks that have us fully hypnotized.
There is a celestial, William Orbit-esque energy to the track, and we love the psychedelic nuances, glistening astral synths and purring instrumentation that manifests a sense of wonder. The instrumental interlude is magnetic, and intricately brought to life with a cosmic synth before a final, anthemic reprise.
Speaking on how the song came to life, Eddie confesses, “I was heavily influenced by the grunge era of the 90s but I also grew up loving 80s bands like INXS and Men at Work, and I love a good pop song. I’m obviously a big fan of the vocal stylings of Eddie Vedder and Alice in Chains and I also loved how Alice in Chains incorporated a lot of vocal harmonies in their songs. I’m also a HUGE fan of U2 and the guitar playing wizardry of the Edge.”
The rising artist from Los Angeles continues, “I think for this song, I wanted to try a different style of vocal layerings where there’s voices responding to each other in the song. The Pixies and INXS used to do a lot of that in their songs so it’s sort of an homage to all of my rock and vocal influences when I was growing up.”
We love how Eddie Cohn brings to life his universe, and have added Wave Goodbye to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the talented creator’s wider discography, and anticipate future releases!
