Joshua Martin takes us on a transcendental trip with inspiring new single, Sol Y Chela

Drawing us in with an expansive guitar riff, evolving into clarity, Joshua Martin opens Sol Y Chela with a pitched vocal before sharing his soul with a more atmospheric energy and transportive Spanish prose, inspiring a sentiment of escapism and connection with our planet.

The opus takes us on a contemporary Latin pop trip with a pulsating beat, astral Spanish guitar riffs and rippling percussion. We love the vivid and metaphorical nature of what Joshua Martin shares, as well as his captivating timbre and mesmerizing delivery.

We learn that Sol Y Chela was inspired by an “unforgettable trip to Mexico.” The star tells us, “It was one of those experiences where you feel so alive, you start questioning why you’re not living every moment to its fullest.”

The talented LA-based artist continues, “The song [is] a love letter to that feeling of wanting to pack up everything and chase a dream by the sea in Mexico. It’s about longing for a simpler, yet more vibrant life, where every day feels like a dance on the beach under the sun. The music captures this blend of joy and wanderlust, wrapping it in rhythms that make your heart beat in sync with the waves.”

We absolutely love the message of the track, and there is no doubt that Sol Y Chela holds a transcendental energy, further brought to life by the accompanying psychedelic artwork for the track.

Joshua cites a range of Spanish and English language sonic influences across ska, pop, reggaeton, reggae, rock, and cumbia, including Aterciopelados, Julieta Venegas, and Cafe Tacvba, as well as dark waves bands like The Cure, Depeche Mode, Pet Shop Boys, and OMD. We can feel these come through in the talented creator’s sound, although it is clear that Joshua Martin is manifesting a sound of his own.

We have added Sol Y Chela to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream Joshua Martin‘s wider discography, including High Go Down, and Quiero Tenerte Pa Mi.
