Drawing us in with an immersive, cosmic frequency and textured drums with static guitar, The Pink Dust open Lovesick with and expansive vocal design and introspective prose.
We are immediately captivated by the transportive energy that the opus delivers, and the intention and emotional depth conveyed by the lyricism. The theme of the track is relatable, and we love the vocal harmonies, hummed interludes and the overarching, dynamic nature of the production.
Delivering a cohesive tapestry of sound, The Pink Dust showcase nothing short of instrumental mastery. The middle eight is stripped back, reminding us of early Red Hot Chili Peppers, before a final chorus evolves into a transcendental space, with a glistening high synth and a meditative aura that we are completely hypnotized by.
The creative duo is comprised of artists Cliff Littlefield and Roy Mitchell-Cardenas, who perform instrumentation and share vocals across the entirety of the project. We also learn that Lovesick features ones of Roy’s “classic bass lines that his Mutemath fans miss and would like to hear more of”, so we are grateful for this sonic presence on the record too!
The Pink Dust cite The Cure, The Beatles, and The Smiths as some of their inspirations, which we can feel come through with their sound, although there is no doubt that Cliff and Roy are manifesting a universe of their own.
Speaking succinctly on the intention behind the release, the creators simply say, “We just wrote an upbeat, but slightly melancholy love song for Valentine’s Day.”
We have added Lovesick to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to explore The Pink Dust‘s wider discography including 1AM and Homecoming, and anticipate future releases from the stars.
