Drawing us in with a dimensional synthscape and the powerful words, “I had a dream…”, coupled with a textured and dynamic trip hop beat with astral vocal textures, FJELIZI opens Money with intrigue and cerebral depth.
We connect with the progressive, cinematic nuance of the composition and intricacy of its sound design, with sonic detailing in line with the optimistic and abundant nature of the lyricism.
The cohesive tapestry of sound that FJELIZI delivers is tangible, the presence of a fierce rap verse adds further dimensionality to the opus, and leaves us mesmerized with the star’s magnetic and atmospheric vocals for the finale.
As for its message, we learn that Money is designed to critique “the exaggerated significance placed on wealth.” The emerging artist confesses, “In essence, money cannot purchase genuine happiness or fulfil true dreams. Mere hype won’t transform you into a legend.” FJELIZI further ponders, “So, why is it deemed essential?”
We love the philosophical perspective that FJELIZI delivers, and her self-described sound as a “musical aphrodisiac” is something that we deeply agree with and connect with.
FJELIZI is a songwriter and singer previously known as Charlie Disney. The talented creator was born in a small town in the south of Russia and first received acclaim for her song Chess, which was chosen by Dutch top model Adinda Kennedy to accompany her performance at Paris Fashion Week. FJELIZI has since moved to Spain in order to escape political complications in her home country.
Speaking on her hands on approach to song creation, FJELIZI tells us, “For me it’s easier to create rather than to try to explain. After all, it’s the other way around for me – it’s music that I use to communicate with people. Music is not a goal, as many people think, it is the only possible means of communication with the outside world for me.”
She cites Lana Del Rey, Sylvie Kreusch, M83, and Lorde as some of her influences, which we can feel come through on Money, although there is no doubt that FJELIZI is manifesting a universe of her own. We have added Money to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from FJELIZI!
