Setting the tone with cerebral ad libs and a dimensional, dark wave synthscape, erupting with a fierce and assertive emo pop rock vocal, Aku The Master opens Double Cross with philosophical depth, introspection and a high emotional quotient.
The opus expands with intentional depth as the artist cries, “Why me?”, fused with poignant lyricism on the human condition and one’s lived experience.
We appreciate the bold and cohesive tapestry of sound that Aku The Master creates, and the cathartic release that Double Cross serves as, for both artist and listener.
Speaking on the release of Double Cross, Aku tells us, “When I made this, I wanted to sound like Chester Bennington, but with my own dark style with the vices of the rockstar life mixed with love and betrayal.”
The rising star from El Paso, Texas is certainly manifesting a sound and universe of his own, although we we deeply connect with the notion of his sonic influence as the late Linkin Park lead singer. In addition, Aku cites A$AP Rocky, Odd Future, and Robb Banks as influences, as well as Juice WRLD and Lil Peep as credit for his darker sound.
He consciously confesses, “I found [that] I started wanting to make music after listening to Max B by A$AP Rocky. I just remember I was peaking and the sound felt euphoric and told me to go for it.”
We love the authenticity that Aku The Master exudes, and have added Double Cross to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream Aku’s wider discography including Jennifer’s Body and Nocturnal, and anticipate future releases from the emerging talent.
