Pioneering, California-based artist Star Amerasu, who releases music under the moniker Ah-Mer-Ah-Su, has just announced the release of her new EP titled never, really, alone, with the lead single, okay coming in April!
The talented creator, supermodel, muse and DJ, who performed on the main stage at LA Pride last year, and went viral for her incredible runway walk for Gypsy Sport, tells us how the upcoming record “explores the idea of loneliness”, and ponders if one is truly alone if we have “nature, cityscapes and the wider world” around us.
On the record, Star invites us to connect with that which surrounds us, “going outside of the confines of your house”, and being at one with “the rocks in the park, or the trees in a forest, for a time that loneliness is soothed.”
Star Ah-Mer-Ah-Su profoundly confesses, “We live in a world that demands content, demands production, and attention. The trees don’t ask for much. I find that going to a local park or forest spending hours wandering the trees and creeks dancing and singing to the sky and touching the earth makes me feel surrounded with love. Maybe it’s not the same as what some view as connection, but it grounds me and takes me out of many a spiral.”
We love the energy that Star delivers with her artistry, and eagerly await the release of both the single and EP. In the meantime, we continue to stream Ah-Mer-Ah-Su‘s incredible discography, including Heartbreaker, Heartbeats and Temperamental. You can also watch Star‘s recent film and visual poem created with director Aimee Hoffman, I Guess below, and via NOWNESS.
For some back story, Star Amerasu began her professional career composing the score for Major! – a documentary film, showcasing the life of transgender revolutionary and Stonewall rioter, Miss Major Griffin-Gracy. Touching upon themes of freedom and self-compassion, her debut album Star was voted by Billboard critics as top 20 LGBT albums of 2018. She acted in various small roles in film from 2018 onward, and in spring of 2023, Star was chosen for OUTFEST LA’s artist-in-residence program.
