Setting the tone with textured percussion and an astral synth with melodic nuance and rolling drums, The Golden Mean Project open Gimme A Laser (Kyrie Eleison) with subversion and escapism.
The opus is dimensional and reminiscent of an 8-bit mindset, laced with intricacies and poetic sound design. We appreciate the dynamic nature of the piece, and the anticipation builds and ebbs and flows.
The concept of Gimme A Laser (Kyrie Eleison) is certainly brought to life with the composition, and we connect emotionally with the expansive nature of what The Golden Mean Project are creating.
Speaking on their artistry, The Golden Mean Project confess, “We are a group of neurodivergent musicians whose interests in philosophy, mathematics, science, technology, and art have found an avenue of expression through our music.”
Elaborating on their creative intention, they add, “We hope to inspire other neurodivergent people of all ages through this album to listen deeply to yourselves and find your own avenues of exploration of the world around you, wherever your natural curiosity and self-expression leads you throughout your lives.”
The group features Sarah Marie Nicolosi on synth, melodica, drums, wooden frog, and bell kit, whilst Charles Sadler performs synth, Jonathan Ford designs the digital percussion soundscape, and plays electric guitar, Charlie Milkey slays on electric bass, and Michael Nicolosi adds his skill on Jupiter-4, wind chime, sleigh bells, guitar FX (synth emulator), ratchet, vibroslap, acoustic guitar, and Farfisa!
With reference to their artist moniker, the collective recount, “The Golden Mean refers to the Fibonacci spiral, which is an infinite mathematical equation, in which each number equals the sum of the previous two numbers (i.e. 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, and so on), with origins in ancient India. Scientists have discovered a relationship between the Golden Mean and the Golden Spiral, a formula that is found everywhere from growing plants to spiral galaxies. It also refers to the ancient Greek maxim Meden Agan, which means “Nothing To Excess” in modern English.”
We are in awe of philosophical depth of The Golden Mean Project, and have added Gimme A Laser (Kyrie Eleison) to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from the talented troupe.
