Drawing us in with an immersive and intimate guitar soundscape with astral textures, building into a fierce emo-pop-rock energy, snakesnakewhale. open Castle, PA with passion and vulnerability as they share introspective prose and emotional depth.
The opus expands with a sense of familiarity as we are taken on a relatable trip with the Asheville-based rockstars. Castle, PA showcases poetic prowess, instrumental mastery, and an intentional brand of songwriting that we cannot get enough of.
A meditative guitar solo allows for some respite before a layered vocal recalibration and anthemic finale. Speaking on the message of the release, the band confess, “Castle, PA was written over the course of many road-trips up and down the Eastern Seaboard.”
The rising stars elaborate, “This song is a callout to the back and forth of focusing on the negative or the positive. The lyrics deal with the overwhelming loss of the feeling of home, no longer attainable the way it was in younger days. The instrumentation carries a positive and rowdy energy that helps the silver linings found amongst the words stand out and take the song in the direction of hope, despite the musing of this being ‘misery’s best bait’.”
The talented group features Matthew Clark on vocals, Kevin Boggs slaying on guitar along with Tyler Hernandez, whilst Max Murray performs bass, and Edwin Mericle delivers a magnetic performance on the drums. Overall, snakesnakewhale. describe themselves as “five close friends writing songs about friendship, nostalgia, and the trappings of mortality.”
We absolutely love the philosophical depth and thought-provoking manner in which snakesnakewhale., and we have added Castle, PA to both our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of the band, including Boy without a Fairy.
