Drawing us in with an elegant and melodic guitar soundscape with textured drums, Michael Louis Austin opens Just Enough with situational and metaphorical prose. The opus expands with instrumental mastery and luscious harmonies to take us on an intimate and connected journey, inviting us to be at one with ourselves and the universe.
We appreciate the poetic prowess that Michael Louis Austin shares, and the tangible wisdom and lived experience that his prose exudes. We love the timeless nature of what Michael Louis Austin conveys, and the overarching wholesome and inspiring message.
The fiddle solo is simply transcendental, leading us to a luscious and harmonic finale. Speaking on the track, which we learn is his second release from a twelve song body of work, Michael confesses, “Just Enough is an acknowledgment to how we can be our own worst critics at times and feel like giving up on our dreams, but also letting us know that yesterdays mistakes combined with our less significant successes are what lead us to leveling up in life. That just when you think of giving up there maybe just enough of something right around the corner to make things happen for you. Don’t take life’s experiences for granted. Use them to better yourself.”
Just Enough features Michael Louis Austin himself on lead vocals, vocal harmonies, acoustic guitar, and electric guitar, whilst Thaddeus Corea shares his skill on drums, percussion, bass guitar, and slide guitar, and David Finch mesmerises us with the fiddle, mandolin, and pedal steel, which is also performed by Tommy Wayne!
Michael cites Counting Crows, Mumford & Sons, Tom Petty, The Wallflowers, The Lumineers, War On Drugs, Dwight Yoakam, and Radiohead as sonic influences, which we can feel come through with the release, although there is no doubt that the talented creator from Salt Lake City is manifesting a universe of his own.
We love Michael Louis Austin‘s sound and the emotional depth that he exudes with his lyricism. He leaves us with the message that, “Just Enough offers up an acknowledgment of what its like to self reflect but not to let your inner citric get the best of you that sometimes its the small wins that we take for granted that lead up to the bigger more noticeable ones.”
We have added Just Enough to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Michael Louis Austin‘s wider discography, and anticipate the remaining ten releases from this era!
