Drawing us in with an intricate and immersive piano performance and cosmic nuances, Paul Marotto opens Anthem of the Forgotten with intrigue, instrumental mastery and evocative prose.
The opus expands with situational lyricism and charismatic delivery as Paul Marotto sings his woes and shares his perspective on reality. Textured drums invite us further into the rising star’s lived experience, and we appreciate the poetic prowess and intentional depth that Paul conveys as a composer.
Speaking on the message of the release, Paul confesses, “I must admit, this song is very personal to me. It is basically my realization of where my addiction to opiates has brought me to in my life. The lyrics are straight forward, almost brutal.”
He adds with optimism, “I hope that someone who has been through the same thing as me might be able to identify with them. Life is so fragile….and our decisions, no matter how small always have a big impact. You have appreciate the moments as they speed past us.”
We deeply connect with Paul’s intentional brand of storytelling, and the soundscape that accompanies him feels expansive, yet dimensional. There is no doubt that fans of David Bowie would love Anthem of the Forgotten, but it is also abundantly clear that Paul Marotto is manifesting a sonic universe of his own.
Paul cites classical composers such as Rachmaninoff and Chopin, as well as The Pixes, and Pavement as influences, and admits that the most beautiful notes he has ever heard were from Rachmaninoff’s Second Piano Concerto, “I still have a hard time realizing that one person could create something so profound that it brings me to tears every time I hear it. It’s absolutely amazing that such composition was ever created.”
We learn that Paul Marotto composes to support anyone affected by addiction and mental illness, and we appreciate his altruistic nature and how he applies his own experience to help the collective through the profound channel of his emotive artistry.
Anthem of the Forgotten has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist and our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream Paul Marotto‘s wider discography including Lonely, and anticipate future releases from the talented creator.
