Setting the tone with rising piano chords, rippling drums and astral guitar nuances, Moving Van open Ouroboros with intrigue, charisma and dimensionality. The opus expands with an evocative vocal delivery, and conceptual prose. We are captivated by the soca meets rock hybrid energy, singer Miranda Shakes‘ Shakira-esque vocal timbre, and the metaphorical depth that is shared by the creators.
Speaking on the message of the song, Moving Van confesses, “Ouroboros isn’t just a song; it’s a celebration of cyclicality and renewal, invit[ing] listeners to delve into the depths of their own experiences while dancing to a beat that refuses to be ignored.”
For reference, the ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent or dragon eating its own tail. You can see this on the band’s artwork for the release.
The ouroboros symbolizes the idea of an eternal cycle of life, death and rebirth. It represents the notion that life and energy never completely die, but are constantly transformed and renewed in an infinite cycle. This theme absolutely comes to life with the infinitesimal nature of the prose and the way in which the song is designed perfectly to loop back on itself.
It is no surprise that the band from California Bay Area has already been creating traction within the local music scene. Moving Van tell us, “Our journey has taken us through iconic venues like San Francisco’s Brick and Mortar and Bottom of the Hill, where we’ve had the crowd buzzing and nearly sold out shows. With members rooted in San Ramon, Fremont, and San Francisco, our sound is as diverse as our backgrounds.”
The guitar solo is simply transcendental, tapping into a mystical energy in line with the concept of the track, and we are in awe. In addition to Miranda Shakes on vocals, the band features Liam McKay on drums, whilst Ian Carlton plays piano, Lars Aquinonez delivers an exquisite bassline, and Josh Clouse slays on guitar.
The group cite Stevie Wonder, Amy Whinehouse, The Meters, Bill Withers, Tom Misch, Yussef Dayes, and Pete Rodriguez’s “I Like it Like That” as sonic inspirations for this release, but there is no doubt that Moving Van are manifesting a universe of their own.
We have added Ouroboros to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TRIPPY playlist, whilst we continue to stream the wider discography of Moving Van, including Popcorn, and their debut single, Cul-De-Sac.
