Setting the tone with an immersive, cosmic riser and cerebral yet dimensional funk-driven guitar performance, rising artist Hannah Johnson opens Slow Motion with atmospheric vocals and affirmative prose.
The opus takes us on a charming and thought-provoking journey as we experience a contemporary pop soundscape with philosophical and relatable depth from our protagonist. The production is bold yet captivating, there is room for nuance whilst still showcasing nothing short of instrumental mastery. The syncable nature of the overarching product is tangible, and we can imagine this as the soundtrack for Selling Sunset or Gossip Girl.
We appreciate Hannah Johnson‘s vocal timbre, and it is clear that fans of Ariana Grande and Tyla would be able to connect with the emerging talent’s vibe. The star, who plays piano, drums and guitar, confesses how she writes from her soul, and that authenticity really comes through in her art. We learn that the message of the track is “real love is worth it, tangible, and something that everybody wants a piece of once they experience it for themselves.”
Speaking further on Slow Motion and her ambitions, Hannah sassily confesses, “Slow Motion is my debut single, but this song is far from amateur. If you’re looking for someone who is serious about their music and following their dreams, then you’ve found the right person. I write to express, connect, and make memories, and I’m looking forward to seeing where this journey takes me.”
Hannah Johnson cites” Jackson 5″ as one of her key influences, saying, “their Ultimate Collection CD lives rent free in my head, and I’m not mad about it”. She continues, “As a young woman, I’d have to say Mariah Carey. Her ability to write song after song that expresses raw emotion and connects with millions of people around the world is something I aspire to do. I am also influenced by Justin Bieber. He created a new pathway for creatives to follow their dreams, and I truly admire that.” We can feel this come through in the Hannah Johnson experience, but it is also clear that the star has the potential to create a unique universe of her own.
With respect to her multi-instrumental nature, she says, “The drums were my first love. I honestly believe I was obsessed with the drums as a kid – a drum set was all I wanted for Christmas. I played the snare drum and bass drum in band during grade school, and I went on to learn the piano and guitar by ear and some lessons here and there. I mainly taught myself how to play the piano so that I could write more music and better understand chord progressions. I’m still working to become more efficient at all three.”
We love the potential that Hannah Johnson has to offer, and look forward to watching her rise. We have added Slow Motion to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate future releases from Hannah Johnson.
