We previously featured JAGAS and Thomas Humbert for their intentional release, Comment on s’aime?, so when we heard that JAGAS was back with Ma Brésilienne, we were intrigued to say the least and couldn’t wait to listen and share our experience.
Drawing us in with a timeless accordion and layered vocals, designed with choral impact, JAGAS opens Ma Brésilienne with charming prose as an ode to his Brazilian partner.
We are moved by the lyricism and JAGAS‘s intentional brand of songwriting. The familiar nature of the soundscape give us peace, whilst we are captivated by the dynamic production and emotional authenticity that JAGAS exudes.
We learn that Ma Brésilienne is not only a beautiful declaration of love to the singer’s partner, but is designed to serve as “an invitation and an encouragement to simply defend love, to take care of it, to commit oneself, to never tire of building and consolidating [a] unique bond of passionate love.” We also learn that the opus us a message of love to Brazil, the country of origin of his wife and a second home to JAGAS.
The chord changes are transcendental and JAGAS‘s sublime and passionate delivery reminds us of icons such as Brel and Gainsbourg – needless to say, we are completely in awe. Melodic intricacies within the composition are refined, and instrumental solos are simply out of this world.
We have added Ma Brésilienne to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream JAGAS‘s wider discography, and anticipate the upcoming music video for the single!
