Establishing the mood with an immersive guitar soundscape and textured drums, Self Torque open No Rest with introspection as they ask, “When will the inspiration come? What time will things start to be fun?”
We immediately connect with the philosophical nature of the prose, and the captivating vocal and instrumental performances. We also swiftly learn that Self Torque is the brainchild of Gabriel A Pentin of Unhung.
The opus has a contemporary feel with timeless melodic elements, laced with warmth and undeniable charisma as the talented creator takes us on a high octane adventure. Self Torque confesses that the song serves as a powerful rallying call for “the dispossessed”, with its introspective lyrics and emphasis on frustration and desperation.
The star adds, “No Rest started from the frustration of not being able to write a song. It’s kind of about not knowing where to start with life. It’s based on not being able to do anything in yourself, but also recognising how far you’ve come.”
No Rest is taken from Self Torque‘s upcoming EP, No Rest for the Depressed, and serves as “a reflective introduction to a collection of songs that carry weight, energy, and meaning, in equal measure.”
We love what Self Torque has to offer, and have added No Rest to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we immerse ourselves in the cinematic music video, and continue to stream their wider discography, including their debut EP, Impending Sense of Doom.
