Establishing the mood with an elegant, intricate piano performance Aldís Fjóla opens Quiet the Storm with intrigue and atmosphere as she shares vulnerable and evocative prose laced with metaphorical nuance.
Needless to say, we are in awe of the poetic prowess of the piece, which we learn was written with her bandmate and close friend, Halldór Sveinsson. The journey that we are taken on feels authentic and raw with a tangible emotional depth.
Aldís Fjóla has a captivating vocal timbre and stunning range which creates a cohesive tapestry of sound with a luscious strings arrangement and masterful, timeless instrumentation.
We learn that Aldís heard the opus a few years ago and couldn‘t get it out of her head. After years of thinking about it, she asked if she could write lyrics and record it, and Halldór approved.
Halldór plays the piano and the violin on the single and confesses that the lyrics are “an ode to her friends, the ones that give shelter in the silence”.
The creators invite us to “stand tall when you break and read your mind when you think you are fooling them with your mask.” The composition is produced with and mixed by Stefan Örn Gunnlaugsson in Studio Bambus and was mastered by Sigurdór Guðmundsson at Skonrokk Mastering.
