Drawing us in with an an enigmatic yet intricate guitar melody, Guild Theory open Indignant Swines with a moody aura and thought-provoking prose as they deliver a narrative-based opus with themes of ingratitude, politics and the state of society.
We are immediately captivated by the charismatic and atmospheric vocal performance, and we connect with the philosophical depth that the British prog rock band, comprised of Rob Lewis on production and Matt Smith on vocals, convey with their vision.
Speaking on the concept of the release the pair elusively confess, “This song fits in with the overall concept of the next album – about a fictional dictator’s life. Without giving too much away as we’d prefer our audience listens and works it out for themselves – but this is all about self-sacrifice and life continuing through his family.”
The journey that Guild Theory take us on with Indignant Swines feels subversive, whilst providing a zeitgeist commentary on current affairs, with a twist.
Sonically, the piece demonstrates nothing short of instrumental mastery and speaking on their influences, Rob and Matt tell us, “We both love bands like Oceansize and Midlake. But we also have musical interests not shared by the other. For example, Matt is a huge Cooper Temple Clause fan and Rob likes a load of bands Matt’s never heard of! But this just helps us bring different ideas to the table when making music.”
We appreciate what Guild Theory are creating, and have added Indignant Swines to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we continue to stream their debut album, Streaks of Light Burn the Sky.
