Our obsession with Rehya Stevens seems to grow with every listen. Having featured her empowering and intentional single, Love Party, and the heartfelt and refined, Early Winter, we couldn’t wait to listen to her latest seasonal release, Be My Baby By Christmas Night.
Establishing the mood with astral, rippling bells, and a signature Christmas drum riff, Rehya opens Be My Baby By Christmas Night with a timeless energy as she sings, “Last year, I was happy as could be, when you were here with me, now you’re gone and I’m in misery, wishing you would come home…”
The opus expands with evocative chord changes and a dynamic, dimensional soundscape as Rehya Stevens showcases her authentic connection with the festive period, but with a lyrical twist.
In fact, the prose is with reference to her late cat Gigi. As much as the sonic architecture has that Christmas cheer, the words about Gigi show how close Rehya truly was to her feline friend, inviting us to share compassion for her loss.
Speaking on the release, the star confesses, “Be My Baby By Christmas Night sounds like a romping, love-sick, hopelessly romantic Christmas song – and it is! However, it was actually inspired by the year I thought I’d lost my beloved cat – who was the naughtiest, most destructive, loveable creature I’ve ever known.”
She continues, “Each time I hear the big, raucous piano glisses (played by producer Brian Steckler) I picture her sassy self bolting down the hall with something delicious between her fangs that she’d swiped from someone’s plate.”
Be My Baby By Christmas Night is taken from Rehya Stevens‘ upcoming Christmas album Santa’s Takin’ Over The Town, due to be released on November 24th, 2023.
With reference to her intentions for the record, Rehya Stevens says, “I hope this CD creates a festive space in households for many holiday seasons to come. There will certainly be enough songs to get you in the spirit and keep you there for a long time!”
We love the timeless energy that Rehya has to offer with her sound, and have added Be My Baby By Christmas Night to our New Music Spotlight playlist, as well as our brand new TIMELESS playlist, whilst we anticipate Santa’s Takin’ Over The Town later this month!
