Establishing the mood with shattering glass, a compressed vocal sample, disc scratching and astral tones, Toby TomTom opens Black Swan with a sense of dimensionality.
The opus expands with an R&B adjacent vocal laced with futurism and a nuanced nostalgia. We appreciate the dynamic switch ups and the memorable hooks as well as the authenticity that Toby TomTom shares with his message.
We learn that in the song’s lyrics, Toby compares love to a Black Swan – “a rare and mysterious creature that represents beauty, grace, and transformation.” Toby TomTom sings about how love can change us for the better, if we only place it above all else in the world.
Speaking confidently on his artistry and genre expansive nature, Toby assertively says, “I’m a unique, self-contained musical artist combining the lyrical honesty and simplicity of Folk with the grit and grind of Hip-Hop, Funk, Soul, Jazz and Rock.”
He goes on to confess, “I plays all of the instruments on my new release, “Black Swan”, including flugelhorn, trumpet, guitar, bass, keyboards, drums, percussion, and vocals. This allows me to have complete creative control over my music, and it results in a sound that is truly original, bigger than life, and cinematic.”
We love what Toby TomTom brings to the table, and have added Black Swan to our New Music Spotlight playlist, and our brand new TRIPPY playlist whilst we continue to explore the wider discography of the star.
