Setting the tone with textured drums, and an immersive, melodic soundscape with astral nuances, Danny Onionz opens ON THE DAILY with situational prose from WESTSIDE BOOGIE as he sings the hook, “Up and down on the daily, up and down baby lately, up and down call me crazy, up and down maybe faded…”
The opus expands with an evocative and cerebral flow from Danny Onionz as he shares his reality, confidence and woes with us. We appreciate the captivating nature of the hook and the authenticity of his lyricism.
It is clear that Danny is unafraid to be his most authentic self and that comes across in ON THE DAILY. His philosophies are tight, his words are well formulated, and his nature is relatable.
We learn that ON THE DAILY was originally written as a “heartfelt tribute to Mac Miller and influenced by his song, Small Worlds. The song echoes Miller’s introspective style and is designed to serves as “a reminder that even amidst the struggles of anxiety, depression, or whatever one may be going through, they are not alone.”
We appreciate the intentional manner in which Danny creates, and the visual for the opus only cements our admiration for the rising star. We have previewed the captivating music video which was shot and directed in the iconic backdrops of Los Angeles and Chicago by APJ, who is known for his work with Chicago legends such as Vic Spencer, Pugs Atomz, and Psalm One.
The cinematic feat takes us on a trip through Danny Onionz‘s home studio in Chicago and prominent LA locations like Amoeba Records, Randy’s Donuts, and Roscoe’s Chicken and Waffles. A touching tribute is also paid to Mac Miller at a mural dedicated to his memory just outside Los Angeles. It is set for release next week!
Danny Onionz cites Rakim, Black Thought, Kendrick Lamar, Eminem, Nas, Andre 3000, Lil Wayne, and of course Mac Miller as influences, although it is clear that the star is creating a universe of his own.
We have added Danny Onionz‘ ON THE DAILY to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his wider discography, and anticipate future releases from the star.
