We previously featured Jacques Bailhé for his evocative and masterful new interpretation for piano, Farewell My Love, so when we heard that the star was back with Désirs de la Basque, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and share our thoughts.
Drawing us in with an intimate Flamenco guitar performance, Jacques Bailhé opens Désirs de la Basque with an enigmatic energy, and we are immediately captivated. The composition evolves with bass nuances and a fierce electric guitar which adds epic dimensionality, juxtaposing the intricacies of the acoustic.
Pulsating drum nuances create further drama, whilst the melodies lend themselves to a cinematic and astral energy, inviting us to connect on a deeply authentic level with the creator.
We appreciate the melodic riffs, the silences and the emotive language that Jacques Bailhé conveys with his masterful instrumentation. The percussive elements inspired by Fado towards the finale establish the mood further, building intrigue, and encouraging us to hit the repeat button after a cosmic conclusion.
Speaking on the release, Jacques Bailhé confesses, “Désirs de la Basque expresses the desires of a young woman in the French Basque country, where my father’s family has lived for generations.”
We absolutely adore what Jacques Bailhé creates, and the intentional style of his vivid and mesmerizing soundscapes. Naturally, we have added Désirs de la Basque to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream the visionary composer’s growing discography, and anticipate future releases.
