Setting the tone with an expansive, synthetic soundscape, Shaampoo Records open his cover of Robert Palmer‘s iconic song Johnny And Mary with the captivating and memorable lyrics, “Johnny’s always running around, trying to find certainty, he needs all the world to confirm that he ain’t lonely, Mary counts the walls, knows he tires easily…”
We absolutely love the universe that we immersed into with this cover. It feels vibrant and futuristic, doing justice to the emotion of the song, whilst creating a progressive frequency for the thought-provoking and open-to-interpretation message of the opus.
The composition showcases instrumental mastery, and we love the charismatic delivery of the prose. The experience is cerebral, dynamic and full of zest.
Speaking on the cover, Shaampoo Records also known as multi-disciplinary artist Bill Burke confesses, “I don’t know exactly what it is about but I feel it has a very strong meaning for me. A battle with myself, my insecurities and constant searching. Also how my wife features in this battle I personally have. Though I’m not sure if the words are so relevant, the meaning feels so clear to me.”
Elaborating on his artistry, Bill adds, “I have always wanted to create an art school rock band kinda in the vein of The Strokes, but I love all sorts of electronica, particularly house music. That doesn’t give much of a clue how this track will sound though, its definitely influenced by my love for 80s nu-wave and post punk stuff, but I also love beautiful synths and I’m only starting to admit to myself now that I love all sorts of pop music too.”
It is clear that the star is creating an authentic dimension of his own. We appreciate his take on Johnny And Mary, which we have added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whist we explore Shaampoo Records‘s wider discography, including Fly Over the Earth, and Gang Banger.
