We previously featured Rehya Stevens for her empowering and intentional single, Love Party, so when we heard that the star was back with Early Winter, we were curious and couldn’t wait to listen and share our feedback.
Drawing us in with an intimate acoustic guitar soundscape and astral frequency, Rehya Stevens opens Early Winter with a warm and emotive vocal as she sings the opening prose, “Spring is gone, Summer went by way too fast, Fall slipped away she never seems to last…”
We appreciate the relatable nature of Rehya Stevens‘ lyricism and her narrative-driven style of storytelling which feels authentic as she brings to life her lived experience.
The flute-like effect on the guitar solo is divine and truly taps into our heart centre in line with the overarching concept of the song. Rehya’s tone is sublime and the strings arrangement is exquisite.
Speaking on the release, Rehya Stevens confesses, “Early Winter is one of my favorite pieces from this new collection. It isn’t a Christmas song per se, but it is certainly fit for the tender side of the season.”
The visionary creator adds, with wisdom, “Many people face the holidays with grief for loved ones passed, relationships torn apart, and regrets to wrestle with in the aftermath. This song is about learning through mistakes, while it’s also about maturing enough to treasure the time you have with the people you love, and to treat them with dignity and radical acceptance, even when it’s challenging. Few things are worth blowing up a solid relationship over. Life is a great teacher.”
We love Rehya Stevens‘ soundscape and message, and have added Early Winter to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream her existing discography, and anticipate the release of her upcoming record, Santa’s Takin’ Over the Town in late November!
