Drawing us in with a pristine vocal performance and elegant, atmospheric piano, Emily Nicole Green opens Thief with poetic depth and an emotive narrative as she shares her innermost emotions with us.
The opus expands with a sense of timelessness and a luscious, organic soundscape as the rising artist shares an existential, yet assertive message through her lyricism.
Speaking on the release, Emily confesses, “Thief is a song about being abandoned or rejected in some way by someone you love. It’s an invitation to stop abandoning ourselves in response. It’s also about realizing two opposing truths can co-exist in the same person. It’s about creating space for what actually happened alongside how you hoped things would have gone.”
We connect with the philosophical intelligence of the track, as well as Emily’s tangible authenticity. The creator adds, “Thief explores the process of acknowledging and validating the pain that we experience, while also looking at how our own responses to situations may have led us to doing additional damage to ourselves.”
She continues with passion, “It’s about understanding the impact that these people who have hurt us have had on us and not shying away from naming their impact on us. At the same time, it’s about no longer making a three- dimensional human into a one-dimensional villain, it’s about admitting the complexities and making room for them.”
Thief is from Emily Nicole Green‘s EP, OUTRUNNING THE ANIMAL, which also features the songs Wreckage, and It’s Gonna Be Okay. With the instrumental mastery that Emily offers with her sound, it is no surprise that her songs have already been featured on editorial Spotify playlists. We have also added Thief to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we connect further with the star’s growing discography.
