Our obsession with Domax started when he released his mesmerizing and psychedelic 10-minute opus, Bollé, we then featured the star when he took us on a celestial adventure with his boundless EP, New Moon, so when we heard that the visionary creator was back with a new EP, Element, we couldn’t wait to listen and share our feelings.
The four track record opens with Chrome, kicking of with a synthetic and textured energy with astral bell nuances and expansive synths. The track holds a psychedelic vibe, in line with Domax‘s existing repertoire, albeit akin to a DMT trip.
There is a high octane energy that transcends the piece, inviting us to experience the galactic nature of the universe with Domax at light speed. The wood block detailing is exquisite, and we appreciate the overall dynamism and out-of-this-world nature of the composition. The middle eight includes a futuristic drum and bass moment which has us tripping even further than we thoughts before a vibrant and dimensional 8-bit conclusion.
Next up is the title track of the EP, Element which holds a meditative vibe at the start, akin to being in the astral realm at night. Fierce percussion ensues, whilst magnetic and glistening flutes inspire us further. The record almost gives a hip-hop meets Avatar (the movie) vibe, which feels grounded yet celestial.
Dlr serves us textured percussion and a playful bassline with nuanced electronica and hypnotizing inflections. The syncopated elements are charismatic and the serene yet industrial finale has us yearning for more.
Finally, we experience Lotus which opens with a tribal and Eastern moment before digital psychedelia teases us as a melodic synth takes on its role as the primary protagonist.
What is wonderful about Domax‘s creations, in addition to his immense talent, is the length of his tracks, which are not designed for quick consumption, but an overarching intentional experience. We have added Chrome to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Domax‘s ever expanding discography!
