Setting the tone with immersive guitar riffs and ethereal vocals singing the name of the track, Dolly Doops opens Voices with intrigue and atmosphere. Needless to say, we are in awe.
The opus expands with introspective prose and a textured pop vocal, as Dolly Doops shares metaphorical concepts and poetic prowess. We appreciate the dimensionality of the soundscape, and the dynamic nature of the composition.
We learn that the lyrics of Voices reveal “things going on inside the mind, intrusive thoughts, an inner critic, spontaneous urges, conversations and visions with the dead.”
We connect with the depth and authenticity that the rising star conveys with her vibe, as well as the relatable nature of her message. Speaking on her artistry, as a whole, Dolly confesses, “I’ve never fit into the normal structured plans of life, education, office work, even the usual daily times of when things are supposed to happen.”
The visionary creator continues, “I have artistry in my blood, I fit my days around creating. I’ve spent the passed 18 months finding, developing my sound and what I want to say with my voice.”
Dolly Doops cites Lady Gaga, Halsey, Prince, PVRIS, and Rina Sawayama as some of her influences, which we can feel come to life with her alternative meets hyperpop sound, but it is clear that the Londoner is creating a universe of her own.
We love the creative output, and have added Voices to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream Dolly Doops‘s debut single, Inside Your Mind.
