Our obsession with Carson Ferris seems to grow with every listen, so when we heard that the young prodigy was back with 1999, we were curious to say the least!
Opening with a fierce industrial riser and a show-stopping beat, Carson Ferris opens 1999 with nothing short of pop perfection! It certainly throws back to 1999 with Britney, *NSYNC references in the lyrics too!
We are shook to say the least. The opus gives Max Martin levels of energy, as Carson wishes that he was born in the year 1999. The middle eight has a transcendental edge as Carson sings his soul out before the final reprise.
The orchestral hits are sublime and remind us of why we fell in love with pop in the first place! Speaking on the message of the track, Carson says, “It’s about feeling like you don’t belong and wondering what it would be like to live in a different time.”
We know now that from a young age, Carson has been identified as “an old soul”. The song idea for 1999 came from this mindset, and we are in awe of the result!
1999 is produced with Carson’s long time collaborator Mykyl who tells us how he tapped into the vibe of Backstreet Boys, *NSYNC, Britney Spears and even the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air to bring the track to life.
Speaking on the release, Carson adds, “People have often called me an old soul, and 1999 kind of echoes that in a really cool way. 1999 will really make you feel like you are listening to a song from the 90s, almost like you’ve gone back in time! 1999 talks about feeling out of place, but when you are feeling like you don’t belong, but you can always find someone to understand what you are going through, so you can feel a little less alone.”
We love seeing Carson Ferris‘s rise to fame and the evolution in his sound, and have added 1999 to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we continue to stream his growing discography, including Crazy, and anticipate future releases from the ingenu.
