Setting the tone with an atmospheric and dimensional synthscape, Myra Monoka opens Drive with intrigue and luscious ad libs, before intricate percussion guides us to a trip-hop style vocal detailing situational prose.
The opus expands with intentional depth as the star delivers an enticing, self-reflective and adventurous journey, and needless to say, we are in awe. Myra’s songwriting ability really shines through, and the manner in which she brings to life the experience of driving, allows us to in turn feel that exhilaration and freedom.
We deeply appreciate the astral synths and the ethereal nature of the vocals as Myra sings, “Come and take a ride with me, I love the way you’re driving me crazy, come and get high with me, I hope you wanna fly with me too…”
We learn that the opus is self-produced, and we particularly connect with the trip-hop adjacent elements that Myra Monoka brings to life with her exquisite sound.
Fans of Morcheeba, Zero 7 and Portishead will absolutely be able to connect with Drive, although it is clear that Myra Monoka is creating a distinctive universe of her own.
We have added Drive to our New Music Spotlight, whilst we continue to stream Myra Monoka‘s wider discography including Mad Love, and Focus, and anticipate future releases from the star!
