Setting the tone with celestial, melodic keys and a rising meditative frequency, barleycove open Forget You with atmospheric vocals from Laura Jones as she sings assertively, “You’re a waste of time, I need you off my mind, to forget you…”
The opus expands into a luscious and dimensional trip-hop meets folktronica energy created by Laura along with her bandmate Tim Trammell, and producer Britt Barker of Catch the Rise.
We are in awe of the cohesive tapestry of sound and elegant, dynamic production, taking us on a journey of ebbs and flows through the emotions of Laura and her need to move on. The theme of the track is relatable and perfectly timed thematically for the Virgo new moon, signifying release, and end of Mercury in retrograde.
Speaking on the meaning of Forget You, Laura confesses, “This song is about moving along quickly when dating when you see the red flags and realize you need to forget them and move on!”
We are in awe of the overall vocal production, the echos and astral nuances, and the dimensional bassline is hypnotizing. Laura’s harmonies, and the expansive and psychedelic finale with textured hooks are captivating.
The creators confess to being inspired by “modern synth acts like Cannons, Tame Impala, Portishead, and Shaed”, but there is no doubt that what barleycove are creating is unique to their own design.
The composition holds an intentional and cathartic nature too, which is re-iterated by Laura, as confirms her belief “in the power of music and the healing that it can bring to our lives.”
Forget You has been added to our New Music Spotlight playlist, whilst we immersive ourselves in their cinematic lyric video, and continue to stream barleycove‘s wider discography, including Hide Away, and No More from their EP, Fairytales!
